Sweeting family Carol 2016-12-06 23:23:04
My sister and I used to stay at the farm on the canal with the Sweeting family during our school holidays. They had a daughter Ann who married Tony. Would like news of Ann.

Cleaner Wanted Sally O'Connell 2016-11-09 12:43:12
Would it be possible to find a local person wanting to do a bit of cleaning - I'm in full time work and would be so grateful to find someone - also to feed my cats when I go away. I've been here for 4 years next April and I haven't seen any ads locally.

Thank you for your help

Hops growing wild by canal Charles 2016-09-09 13:26:16
At the back of the new leisure area by the pillbox next to the canal is an abundance of hops growing over almost everything. I wondered if anyone knows where they may have originated from as it is unusual.

Adsborough A Rutledge 2016-09-05 20:24:59
Does anyone have any information about the Westcombe family who lived at Greenway House, Adsborough in the middle of the 19th century or the Heale family who lived at Bay Tree House Adsborough in the late 18th/early 19th century? Also does anyone know where exactly these houses were/are? Thanks.

Creech St Michael in The Great War Eric Chown 2016-04-06 12:43:16
I am doing some research into the names on both war memorials, one in the churchyard and the other at the chapel. I already have some details of these men from the village.
I am trying to trace all the family connections in the parish. My aim is to give a very short biography of each name, family history and military service including the circumstances of their death. To include medals and any honours etc.
Some of the families may have lost their ties to the village so if anyone reading this can add or give details of known family members who served and lost their life between 1914 – 1918 it would help to complete our knowledge of these brave men.
Ruishton has a complete Roll of Honour for all the men of their parish. It would be a fitting tribute if our parish could do the same to commemorate their memory in the 100 years since their service to this country.
I shall also be compiling the same information about the six men from the parish who are named during the second world war 1939 – 1945.
Contact me through the website or directly;
eric.chown@icloud.com to include the subject 'creech in the great war'

Land behind Hyde Lane Philip West 2016-03-30 18:43:15
Does anyone know who owns the land behind the new Hyde Lane development, which boarders the M5 and the canal (with footpath under the M5 to Hyde Farm).
Having moved out their sheep a few weeks ago they seem to have left one behind, which has now given birth to two lambs.

Parish council tax bill Ian Miles 2016-03-18 10:06:59
Can you please explain the reason for the 40.4% hike in the Parish council tax bill.

I'm a resident of Coombe, can you tell me what portion of the money raised is is attributed to improvements to our village ?

Thank you.

Hi Ian, this is a question that should be put directly to the Parish Council. Their email address is parishclerk@creechstmichael.net

Ancestor tracing Martin Southwood 2016-02-22 11:14:57
Good morning,

One of my hobbies is tracing ancestors both for myself and other people. At present I am working on a family supposed to be living in Creech or at least Heathfield around the late 1800s. Father, Thomas George Osment was believed to have been the local Police Constable (quoted in reports for 1880 and 1887). By the 1911 Census, he is a 'retired Policeman' and from archives owns or runs a local farm. His wife was Elizabeth Honor Osment, children were Clifford, (became a mason), Tom, (was wounded in WW1 and a prisoner of war), Gladys, Leonard and Evelyn. It is this last lady that I'm having difficulty with. She is said to have been baptised at Creech in 1907 but there doesnt appear to have been a record (although ealier children had been). She also went to Bishop Fox's in Taunton around the time of WW1 and later the whole family moved to Theale in Berkshire.

If any of your readers or contacts know of any links or local history, I would be most grateful for any information.

Regards,

Martin Southwood martinsouthwood@btinternet.com

Hello
I am an occupational therapist and work with many older people in the Taunton area.
I have one lady in your area looking to attend regular group for older, less able people. Do you run such a group, or are you aware of any in the Creech St Michael area please?
Reply Kathryn Partridge 2016-09-27 21:41:24
Creech Baptist Church alternate Tuesday afternoons, have a group called Tea break. They serve tea and cakes whilst listening to a speaker or having some kind of craft demonstration for more information, email Lisa the Church office manager office@creechbc.co.uk
Also there is a Contact for the Elderly group who meet for afternoon tea some Sunday afternoons - Creech St Michael residents, aged 75 and above, who live alone, without the support of family and friends, and who are interested in joining the Taunton Contact the Elderly group can contact Helen Ker, Bristol, Bath & Somerset Development Officer, on 0117 960 9606 or email helen.ker@contact-the-elderly.org.uk
