North End Crossing Fran parkinson 2018-05-03 08:37:26
I would like to know if consideration can be given to provide a safe road crossing at the bottom of North End as I live in a cottage right on the roundabout to crossover and walk the virtual footpath is a complete nightmare! It's funny but since the traffic has got real busy Somerset council have not been putting up their black box on the lamp post outside my house! They must of acknowledged how busy it's become as when we had snow they sent a snow plough out as far as the mini roundabout! I used to attend the parish council meetings when I first moved here about 12 years ago and raised the road safety issue then I am pleased there was a result but when I mentioned the crossing i was told its too near the roundabout but I noticed where new houses are being built there are road crossing near roundabouts! Can we also request a mobile speed camera2LN by police down here as I am sure they could issue quite a few fines!

Turret wall ? Sue 2018-01-09 11:10:10
Hi there I bring my son to Creech st micheal once a week for his apprenticeship and we are both curious about what looks like a turret wall and there are lots of what I think are teddy bears attached. Please does anyone know
Reply Jason Sensation 2018-03-15 13:22:50
I know where you mean. The raised embankment used to be the Creech to Chard Railway, with the other raised embankment being the old canal. Bridges would have crossed the road at this point. They seem to have landscaped a lot of this old railway and joining field, and seem to be very keen to keep people out, their property i guess so fair enough. From memory the turret wall is just an arrangement of stones on the end of the bank and what seems to be an access slope to give the appearance of some sort of castle, Im sure its just earth underneath. However if you look closer, below this and set slightly further back toward creech and under this set of stones is a WW2 structure that is fairly substantial and travels under the embankment, with access from behind, near the smaller layby/gate entrance on the creech side ( not the big lay by used by wsseex water, the other side ). It was til fairly recently possible to enter this structure, I suspect the current owners have most likley blocked this off for their own use. Again they seem to have added some stones to give it some sort of castle effect. there are other structures on this embankment including what i assume is a train stop and a pill box, most easily seen from the road from Henlade to Creech, just past the single bungalow on its own. Really not sure what its all about but im guessing they are doing more to preserve the structures than the damage used to be done to it by off roaders....unless they still use it and this is part of making it more attractive to members of an off road club? I notice the canal embankmenton the other side of the road had been very much 'tidied up' so dont know if this has the same owners.

My sister and I used to stay at the farm on the canal with the Sweeting family during our school holidays. They had a daughter Ann who married Tony. Would like news of Ann.

Cleaner Wanted Sally O'Connell 2016-11-09 12:43:12
Would it be possible to find a local person wanting to do a bit of cleaning - I'm in full time work and would be so grateful to find someone - also to feed my cats when I go away. I've been here for 4 years next April and I haven't seen any ads locally.

Thank you for your help

Hops growing wild by canal Charles 2016-09-09 13:26:16
At the back of the new leisure area by the pillbox next to the canal is an abundance of hops growing over almost everything. I wondered if anyone knows where they may have originated from as it is unusual.

Does anyone have any information about the Westcombe family who lived at Greenway House, Adsborough in the middle of the 19th century or the Heale family who lived at Bay Tree House Adsborough in the late 18th/early 19th century? Also does anyone know where exactly these houses were/are? Thanks.

Creech St Michael in The Great War Eric Chown 2016-04-06 12:43:16
I am doing some research into the names on both war memorials, one in the churchyard and the other at the chapel. I already have some details of these men from the village.
I am trying to trace all the family connections in the parish. My aim is to give a very short biography of each name, family history and military service including the circumstances of their death. To include medals and any honours etc.
Some of the families may have lost their ties to the village so if anyone reading this can add or give details of known family members who served and lost their life between 1914 – 1918 it would help to complete our knowledge of these brave men.
Ruishton has a complete Roll of Honour for all the men of their parish. It would be a fitting tribute if our parish could do the same to commemorate their memory in the 100 years since their service to this country.
I shall also be compiling the same information about the six men from the parish who are named during the second world war 1939 – 1945.
Contact me through the website or directly;
eric.chown@icloud.com to include the subject 'creech in the great war'

Land behind Hyde Lane Philip West 2016-03-30 18:43:15
Does anyone know who owns the land behind the new Hyde Lane development, which boarders the M5 and the canal (with footpath under the M5 to Hyde Farm).
Having moved out their sheep a few weeks ago they seem to have left one behind, which has now given birth to two lambs.
