Hi Jackie,

With the churchyard survey about 20% done I have just come across a Bobbett headstone, John Bobbett 1848 and his widow Harriet 1857, badly flaking - it does not photograph well.
Looking in the local telephone directory there are no Snooks but two Bobbetts, not in the Creech area. My wife thinks there as some Snooks in the next village - Ruishton.
As to the names in the photos my only resource (which is on this website) is the school history 1873 -1973, which talks of the three admissions registers for the school, who holds them now I am not sure. Mr Hurrell is recorded as taking his post in 1885 so not sure which is correct date. The Sweeting's family is still in the village.
If you have the bug, the Somerset Heritage Centre may have some extra information.
Regards

Thank you for your time, I have managed to obtain the book on Creech by June Small. What a size on the Bobbett Family mind blowing and so many John's! our grandfather was born in Creech... Albert John Bobbett his father being John from Lyng who married a young lady called Emma Snook moving to Barry, Vale of Glam around the 1900 for some reason she returned either to have her children in Creech or to have them baptized in the church. Do you know if any Snooks still reside in Creech? We know my Auntie Flossie [bobbett] visited Creech where she met and married her husband he was a Burgess both buried together in your church. We are also amazed to find that
the Sweetings in our village of St. Athan also came from Creech and so it goes on, i can't quite believe it...The photo of the home guard Jack and Tacker Sweeting have passed there looks on to Nancy Woods nee Sweeting's son Fred its truely amazing. Page 82 Mr Hurrell and class 1884 second row 4th little girl from the right she looks just like us, do you know if their is any records of there names? I am afraid i have the bug along with another two sisters and a niece! We will look forward to your on line information.
Regards
Jackie

Jacqueline,
Further to your enquiries about the Bobbetts, my wife reminded me that June Small (who was awarded an MBE in June 2011) published a book on the history of Creech St Michael, also gave talks on the people of the village and certainly had a wealth of knowledge of the Bobbetts.
Looking at her book she devotes a whole page listing the activities of the various family members for over 350 years right back as far as 1569 to a Thomas Bobbett.
I think that she may still have copies of her book for sale if you do not have one.

Dear Jacqueline,

I am, working with the churchwarden, about to start a project to put as much detail from the church memorial inscriptions as possible online. One of the inscriptions was of a member of the Bobbett family.
All memorial tablets inside the church and those readable gravestones are on record so we can access them.
This is likely to be a large project but if possible I will get the inscription for you.

I also have references to a William Bobbett( a village overseer) in 1808. And a David Bobbett in 1839 as being entitled to serve on a jury (1839). These two persons are mentioned in a school project researched and written by the children in 1970.
