village telephone kiosk 2012-05-24 08:17:47
I read recently in a National newspaper that more than 400 classic red telephone boxes, which normally only see a paint brush every ten years, are being glossed up for the Olympic games. These kiosks are situated in London and Weymouth but reading the article reminded me of the sad state of our village telephone box. Britain currently has 51,500 telephone kiosks, and just 11,000 of these are the traditional red ones. They are an iconic symbol of 'Britishness' and as such attract the attention of visitors. Please can we investigate the possibility of repainting our village telephone box very soon and turn it from a shabby eyesore to its original spendour.

Job done, It looks very smart with the crown painted gold. Was it painted gold for the Jubilee I wonder?

Thank you for this post Carol.

I have raised this with BT and they have promised to consider adding our Box to their maintenace schedule if I send them some photos.

I will do this!

I tried to press them for an early repaiting but they are clear their contractors have quite a programme and it will be sometime.

Meals on Wheels? 2012-05-02 08:10:03
Please can you tell me if it might be possible to arrange a 'Meals on Wheels' hot lunch service for my mother, Jean Annett 91yrs), who lives alone in Creech Heathfield.
Thank-you
Stuart Annett, Creech Heathfield.

Eric

Thank-you for your help, I was aware of Wiltshire Farm Foods, they are I believe a good supplier. Unfortunately they simply supply meals which still require cooking, social services can provide a service of preparing meals but I had hoped to find a commercial or voluntary option.

Once again many thanks for you kind help,

Stuart

Stuart,

The 'Meals on Wheels' service in Somerset was discontinued several years ago but "Wiltshire Farm Foods" seem to offer a similar service. They can be contacted online at www.wiltshirefarmfoods.com or if you don't have access to the internet a freephone number (0800 773 773) is available for more details on the food and options available. You will also find out if deliveries are done in Creech Heathfield. This in not an endorsement of the service provided as looking after an elderly parent is very personal. Help the Aged and Social Services can offer advice for care.
