Santina,
I am not sure why you chose us to answer your question but as far as I can see "Charity Sweets" are a company in the West Midlands.
Click the link for their website www.charitysweets.co.uk
This will give you much more information on who they are, what they do and how they operate.
Their telephone number is 0845 120 1531
This information is not an endorsement of the company and we are not connected to them in anyway.

Hi Claire, I'm Clare Sampson, current Parish Council Chairperson. We have funds allocated to the area to spend on the recreation field. There will be three new play areas for toddlers, primary school age kids and a multi use games area for teenagers. The money we have to fund this comes from the developers of the new Hyde Lane Housing estate. They had to provide play facilities as part of the planning consent. The funds from this 'planning gain' are currently with TDBC. In order to spend them on the play equipment we have to follow a tender process to demonstrate to the developer & TDBC that we have fairly picked a provider of the equipment and contractor to do the work. The first stage of the tender process will be completed this week (gathering details of companies suitable to tender). We then have to ask for tenders and score these. We have to demonstrate to TDBC that we have followed this tender process which involves quite a few detailed documents, this is not a process we have had to adopt before, so apologies I do not know how long it will take. Rest assured we are working hard to do this at least cost by doing much of the work ourselves (parish councillors are volunteers) - we want to spend the money on play equipment, not consultants. If you would like to be kept informed on progress, do just email our clerk with your contact details and we'll keep in touch. Very best regards.

HI Claire,
The July 2012 minutes (12/157) outlines the current state of affairs for the Recreation field which includes the needs for another step in the process of installation of the proposed children's play area kit. It is my understanding this European Tender is necessary step to ensure that the quality of the works meets certain standards. It is not stated in the minutes how long the process will take but it does seem to incur extra costs. The plans were published on this website in April 2012 and it does look a very exciting area.
Regards

Do any residents past or present recall the name Ernest Maslin? |

Do any residents past or present recall the name Ernest Maslinfrom London who convalesced in Creech St Michael as a boy around the time of the 1st World war. I know it's a long shot but perhaps someones grand parents spoke of him? Many thanks Cherry Howard, Hampshire |

Many thanks Eric. You're right - too much time has elapsed. It's just a mystery - if only I'd asked my Dad when he was still with us. All close relatives too have passed. Something we shall never know I think. Kind regards Cherry

Cherry,
It does seem as if your long shot has not paid off.
The time scale of the great war is a bit too distant for family recollection. It does sound an interesting search you are on and why Creech St Michael as a convalescent destination. With my limited knowledge of the village during that period if he was only here for a short time he may not have even attended school if he was recovering from an illness. I would be able to tell you the name of the vicar and headmaster in those times and possibly the butcher and baker but one child passing through is not likely unless your resource can add more detail. Those days saw a lot of family movements for many reasons.
We are sorry that we were not able to add to your knowledge, good luck for the future

Amazon currently have a hardbacked copy for sale at £70, but an electronic version is for sale at £25 from http://www.halsgrove.com I understand that the publisher will not be re-printing the book in the near future.

Tod,
Sorry I should have mentioned that the produce stall is at the Farmer's Market in the High St. Taunton. These are held every Thursday and June and her husband Robin will be there.

Tod,
And the other enquiries, I have contacted June and she said that she would have a copy available at the Charlton Orchards produce stall next Thursday 7th July 2011. If this arrangement is not suitable please email me again I may be able to arrange an alternative delivery.

Hello Tod,
A lady asked the same question a couple of years back. This AAQ article on the Creech website may help you:
