Apr 2011 Volunteers required for St Margaret's Hospice 15th May at Creech canal-side park 2011-04-18 20:47:45

Article submitted by Diana, St Margaret's Hospice

St Margaret's Hospice is holding its popular Charity Walk on Sunday 15th May.

The route takes walkers through Creech St Michael, along the canal path. We have a registration point on the canal path, near the car park.

We are urgently looking for volunteers to help man the registration point and, in particular, anyone who would be the registration lead. This involves setting up and closing the registration point and co-ordinating the volunteers.

We would also be very grateful if someone had a sturdy tent or caravan that could be used to house the registration point.

We have ordered lovely weather, but just in case...!

Thank you

Diana St Margaret's Hospice

Apr 2011 Plaque and a bench dedicated to the memory of late Village Hall Chairman, Eileen Webb 2011-04-18 14:16:59

A plaque and a bench dedicated to the memory of the late Village Hall Chairman, Eileen Webb, were unveiled by Eileen’s long-time companion, Frank Berniaz, at a reception held in the hall on 10th April 2011.

Frank was delighted to meet so many of Eileen’s friends and it was a very happy occasion although tinged with sadness as Frank prepares to leave the village.

He will be missed by so many friends in the area but wished every success for the future.

Apr 2011 Faster Broadband for Creech may be sooner than you think 2011-04-08 12:04:12

Article submitted by Eric Chown, Creech St Michael, Web Publicity

The national press are pushing the Coalition's plans to bring faster broadband service to the rural areas using the latest technology.  See our recent article on Somerset County Council’s Faster Broadband initiative and questionnaire.

But perhaps faster speeds for Creech may be closer that we think.

If you are like me and wonder what happens when you see engineers working down your street sometimes it is worth a quick enquiry.

I have just cycled past the Hyde Lane junction in the village centre and there was a BT Outreach vehicle with a trailer carrying a large drum of cable, with an engineer opening a man-hole.

Me being nosey I asked "copper or fibre". The response was 'fibre - but it is for the school - so it won't affect you'.

But it is a start - read into it what you may. One fibre cable might be considered overkill for the school. Can anyone else add to my conjecture?

Apr 2011 Neighbourhood Watch - Census Staff calling at your door 2011-04-07 21:06:00

From Avon and Somerset Police Neighbourhood Watch scheme

G390 06042011

This message is sent following previous messages in relation to the 2011 National Census which you may feel is appropriate to pass to your members.

We have been asked to send out a reminder by the National Census Office that this should have been completed (either in paper form or on-line) and returned by now.

If anyone has difficulty filling out the forms (or if you know of anyone who is having difficulty) field officers are available to help and arrangements can be made for them to call by appointment. Just telephone the Census Helpline on 0300-0201-101.

Over the next few weeks Census field officers will call at homes of those who have not completed and returned a form. Again they can also offer help and support to those people. We are notifying you just in case you see people in the area calling at doors.

All Census staff will carry appropriate identification with them which can be checked via the Census Helpline number as above. Please remember to follow the doorstep code regarding all callers at the door.

Please note that it is a criminal offence not to return the form and prosecution could lead to a fine of £1,000. This is easily avoidable by ensuring that the Census is completed and returned.
