Jul 2011 Liz Sparkes new Editor Creech Parish Magazine 2011-07-28 15:25:31

Article written by Liz Sparkes, New Parish Magazine Editor, July 2011

I am excited to have been invited to take over the editorship of the Creech St Michael Parish Magazine. I have big shoes to fill, Michael and Helen Phillips have been doing a grand job and I hope to do as well.

As a relative newcomer to Creech St Michael (April 2010), I am still getting to know people, and part of my keenness in taking on the editorship was to help me do just that! I am not a newcomer to “the levels” though, having arrived here over 32 years ago. Apart from a “stint” in Devon I have lived here ever since.

I have 2 grown up sons who no longer live at home and a 13 year old, a student at Heathfield Community School who very much does! I run my own business as counsellor and Stress Management Consultant, working from home as well as from a small practice in Taunton.

CSM’s Parish Magazine is quite unique, having an unbroken history going back 30 years. Thanks to the Parish Council and local advertisers it is also unique in being free of charge, meaning that all information about our parish reaches absolutely everyone in the parish.

I’m sure I will gradually bring my own unique style over time, keeping things fresh for villagers and advertisers alike, whilst ensuring the vital core of the magazine remains.

Whilst much of the world is now online, there is still an important place for good old “ink and paper”, something that comes to you, rather than you needing to search for it, and something that you can keep by your phone in case of emergencies requiring a local response!

I am looking forward to speaking to anyone who has a business to advertise, a club or society to promote, or any bit of news or information they want to make sure reaches every last man woman and dog in our community!

Jul 2011 Help Required for Visually Impaired People in Creech 2011-07-26 12:54:26

Article written by Sandra Harris, Volunteer Visitor Co-ordinator of Somerset Sight

Somerset Sight is looking for volunteer visitors in Creech.

Somerset Sight is a long established local charity that helps visually impaired people.

Volunteer visitors assist people in their homes with everyday tasks such as reading mail, paying bills or even just the chance for a good old fashioned chat.

A regular visit to help with all sorts of tasks and activities enables them to maintain a busy and fulfilling life and long lasting friendships are formed.

I am sure you would enjoy being part of a team who like to help local people and no experience is necessary as training is provided.

If you have just a couple of hours a fortnight to spare, I would like to invite you to join my team of volunteer visitors, covering the Creech St Michael and Ruishton area, where there are several people waiting for your help.

Please contact me to find out more:

Jul 2011 23rd July David Wilson Homes BBQ at Hollinsworth Park 2011-07-15 16:13:10

A celebration of summer is planned for the region’s homebuyers when they visit Hollinsworth Park for a Celebration of Housing this month.

The popular David Wilson Homes development is planning a special event, on Saturday July 23 from noon until 4pm.

Visitors will be treated to a BBQ and a special appearance from two guide dogs, Wilson and Willow, who have been sponsored by the leading housebuilder.

The David Wilson Homes logo is a Golden Retriever because many years ago the developer sponsored a guide dog puppy called Wilson. Staff continue to be passionate about supporting this charity whenever it can.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for buyers, looking to settle in the area, to visit Hollinsworth Park and discover everything this outstanding development has to offer,” said Barratt sales director, Russell Glimstead.

“We are looking forward to welcoming visitors for our celebration and treating them to a closer look at the beautifully-designed selection of homes here and to meet these lovely guide dogs.”

“We have done everything we can to make Hollinsworth Park a relaxing and beautiful place in which to live – just like its picturesque surroundings. Would-be buyers visiting us on 23 July will get the opportunity to sample the fantastic community spirit here – and of course the superb homes on offer.”

Hollinsworth Park offers a range of large three, four and five bedroom houses that are perfect for families to grow into. Current availability includes the three bedroom Deane house, from £219,950; the four bedroom Drummond and Cornell designs, from £299,950; and the spacious five bedroom, Moorecroft family home, from £429,950.

“Finding the best possible education for their off-spring is almost always top of the list for parents seeking a new home,” said Russell. “We understand just how important it is to be within touching distance of a popular school – and we are delighted to be able to offer this at Hollinsworth Park.”

For more information about Hollinsworth Park, please contact the sales suite, open daily, from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm, on 0844 811 4441 or visit www.dwh.co.uk
