Article submitted by Nigel Finch, Webmaster   The Reverend Henry Cresswell was the 28th vicar of St Michael’s Church from 1813 to 1849.   He was a very interesting man and was related to many of the noble families of England.   Henry Cresswell, a lively and outspoken character, was vicar of St Michael's Church for 36 years and thoroughly deserves recognition in the Creech Hall of Fame.   [caption id="attachment_1806" align="alignleft" width="167"] Loreen Chambers, author of Rev'd Henry Cresswell[/caption] Loreen Chambers of Melbourne, Australia, is married to John Chambers who is the GGG Grandson of Reverend Henry Cresswell.   Loreen, who has a deep interest in English history, has researched the life of Reverend Henry Cresswell and has written a very interesting article on his life in the Creech Hall of Fame.   The Creech website is grateful to Loreen for a well researched and fascinating article.
Notification of closure of part of Hyde Lane 2013-03-18 09:51:42
Article submitted by Steve Altria, Clerk to Creech St Michael Parish Council   SCC highways have informed me that the previously advertised order for the closure of part of Hyde Lane (that from Hyde Lane cottage to Brittons Ash) to vehicular traffic was confirmed 14th March and sealed 15th March.   They have given me notice that the developer will place “black on yellow” signs out week  commencing 18th March advising that part of the Hyde Lane will be closed with effect from 29th March.   The physical work to secure the closure will then take place during the Easter school closure period. Additional “road closed ahead” signs will be erected at the junction of Brittons Ash and the A38.   I understand that Hyde Lane from Bathpool, past the Rugby Club, over the M5  through Hollingsworth Park, past the Health Centre and the School into the village will remain open.   Discussions on the Parish Councils requests for a connection through the new West Monkton development to the A38 and an upgrading to provide a proper footpath and cycleway are on-going.

Presentation of a film of The Chard Canal available to organisations in Creech 2013-03-06 15:28:24
Article submitted by Alan Keene, film makers of The Chard Canal   We are a small group of five retired gentlemen who produce films, usually of places of interest in Somerset. We call ourselves Anorak Communications and are part of Crewkerne U3A. Last year we made a 40 minute documentary film (on DVD) called The Canal, the story of the old Chard Canal which, of course, started in Creech St Michael joining the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal near Mill Lane.   [caption id="attachment_1774" align="aligncenter" width="503"] The Anorak Film Producers[/caption]   The film traces the route of the canal from the former aqueduct at Creech through the tunnels at Lillesdon, Wrantage and Ilminster to its destination in Furnham Road, Chard where B&Q DIY now has a superstore.   We held a presentation and premiere of the film in Merriott Tithe Barn in November 2012 which was well received by over 40 people.   We are grateful to various residents in Creech St Michael for their help in making the film, including Nigel Finch for his knowledge of the canal and Derek Smart of Mill Lane who kindly allowed us to film the remnants of the canal where it passed through his garden next to the river Tone.   We have been asked by various organisations in Somerset to give a presentation of the film, which we are always delighted to do.   Having spent much time in Creech filming, it would be great fun to screen it in the village, if any organisations are interested. If so, please contact me, Alan Keene, on 01460 73077.
