Sponsorship requested for Creech ballet dancer 2013-04-23 11:50:06
Article submitted by Imogen Mansfield, Creech St Michael   My name is Imogen Mansfield and I am 16 years old. I have been accepted into Tring Park School for Performing Arts to specialise in Classical Ballet starting in September 2013. I have been very lucky to gain a Government Funded Means Tested Scholarship (DaDA) to attend the school and I am hoping to gain further local sponsorship to support me when I take up the place in order to realise my dream of becoming a professional dancer.   I have danced since the age of 2 years old and over the years I have achieved a great deal in my goal of becoming a professional dancer. I currently attend Heathfield Community School where I am taking my GCSE’s this summer. I have worked hard at school and am a music prefect, play in the school orchestra and am very positively involved in school life.   I dance at Trull School of dancing in Taunton, Somerset where I will take my final graded exam this summer. I obtained 97% in my last exam and have worked very hard this year for my final exam.   I am a Senior Associate with Ballet Cymru the Welsh ballet company and travel regularly to Wales to dance with the company; I also travel to Bristol where I have private lessons at The Emily Baker School of Dance for dance competitions that I take part in all across the South West.   I have two part time waitressing jobs to help my parents financially with the cost of my dance training and I am committed and hard working in both jobs and my employers are very supportive.   Since 2012 I have been auditioning for a place at a Vocational Dance School and have been lucky to have been offered places at three schools. Unfortunately due to Government cut backs in putting funding into the arts, scholarship places at these schools are very limited and usually go to young dancers from all over the world who have already been in vocational schools since a young age and so are further trained and so more cost effective for the schools to take on.   It is highly unusual for someone of my age to apply and get a scholarship and so I am delighted that I have been offered a scholarship and now in order to fund my dream and to be able to be part of those that want to bring the Arts back to Somerset I am hoping to achieve enough further sponsorship locally to help fund my accommodation, travel, pointe shoes and much more for when I attend Tring Park School which is the best Performing Arts Schools in the country.   The course is three years long and at the end of the three years I will have gained A levels in my chosen subjects and a National Diploma in Professional Dance Training. I will be the only young person from Taunton to have ever achieved this and I am so very proud.   I hope to become a professional dancer with a prestigious company within the dance industry as Tring Park has an excellent record of student success in gaining worthwhile and meaningful careers. I also hope to bring my training back to Taunton in the future to teach and inspire young people.   If you feel that you can sponsor me, no amount is too small, I would be very grateful and would be happy to take part in any media advertising and performing that you felt was appropriate.   Please visit my GoFundMe site where you can win great prizes if you sponsor me!   Thank you for reading this and I hope you can support me! Imogen Mansfield
