Did you go to school in Creech in 1950 2013-08-27 13:08:40
Article written by Eric Chown, Creech St Michael   Last year I published a photo of a Christmas Party in 1950 in the former WI hut at Ryesland Way.   There are over 60 children in the photo and I am trying to put names to them all. Can you help?   Rita Cassidy has helped me and believes no. 27 is Valerie Pitts but it would be nice to have confirmation.   Also Rita believes no. 25 is Margaret Samford and not Betty Jewell who I thought.   Can you help with nos 25 or 27 or any of the other missing names?

Article received from Jason Tinley, Community Council for Somerset

Somerset Community Oil Scheme

Buy early to save ££s on your winter heating oil

Dear Community Supporter Have you purchased your heating oil yet this summer? Heating oil prices are lowest during the summer months, so topping up your tank now could save you ££s as oil prices tend to rise in October for the winter. You could save even more through the Somerset Community Oil Scheme!   On 9th August we made our monthly purchase on behalf of our members. Our members paid the low price of 54.95ppl (pence per litre), saving 3.37ppl against the average price. Our next purchase takes place at the start of September, so join now to place your order for our 2nd September deadline! The Somerset Community Oil Scheme is a venture from the Community Council for Somerset (CCS) designed to help reduce fuel costs for people in Somerset! The bulk-buying oil scheme launched in Somerset in September 2011 now boasting over 560 members both domestic households and commercial users; schools, businesses and community buildings. How the membership works:
  • Annual membership is £20 for domestic users and £30 for community buildings, schools and churches
  • Annual membership for business users is based on your annual usage
    • Under 5,000 litres per year - £30
    • Between 5,000 and 10,000 litres per year - £60
    • Over 10,000 litre per year - £100
  • Since we began we have made 22 oil purchases on behalf of our members totalling 1,244,780 litres and saving our members £52,158.97 in total!
  • On average our members have saved £43.30 against the average price for a 1000 litre order.
CCS is a charitable company which has been in existence since 1926 to support action in local communities; we continually look for opportunities to help and benefit local people and local communities.

Summer's here - order now and save ££s

The summer is here and oil users can maximise their savings by purchasing oil in the summer months when the price of heating oil is at the lowest. In July 2012 we purchased at 50.48ppl – 9.1ppl cheaper than the member price for November! You can save even more by joining the scheme. Superfast Broadband getting closer to Creech 2013-08-07 08:44:10
Article received from Eric Chown, Web Publicity   The attached Press Release issued by Taunton Deane Borough Council announces that Creech St Michael should benefit from high speed fibre broadband likely by the end of 2013.   Press Release:   News that four rural areas in Taunton Deane will be better connected in future is being welcomed by the Borough Council.   Bradford on Tone, Bishops Lydeard, Monkton Heathfield and Creech St Michael are the areas identified as among the first in Somerset to benefit from high speed fibre broadband in future.   The areas should be enabled by the end of the year meaning local households and businesses will be able to communicate more quickly and efficiently in future. The news was announced by Connecting Devon and Somerset, a programme to bring superfast broadband to areas that would otherwise miss out.   Councillor John Williams, Leader of Taunton Deane Borough Council, welcomed the news saying: “We are fortunate to have superfast broadband in Taunton and Wellington and I am delighted the benefits are now going to be enjoyed by some of our more rural areas.   “Connecting Devon and Somerset is to be congratulated on what has been achieved and I hope we can look forward to some more good news for our community. Superfast broadband is essential for businesses and will make a very real difference to those outside Taunton and Wellington.”   Connecting Devon and Somerset encompasses the six local authority areas of Devon, Torbay, Plymouth, Somerset, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset and is funded by Central Government (£32m) and Devon and Somerset Councils (£21m), including a £42m investment from partner supplier BT.   Connecting Devon and Somerset will deliver broadband (greater than 2Mbps) for all and superfast broadband (greater than 24Mbps) to at least 91% of premises; both by the end of 2016, aiming for 100% superfast broadband coverage by 2020.   Connecting Devon and Somerset has launched its interactive map (please visit. www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk/where-and-when) The map, which went live on the CDS website on 26 July 2013, provides current information on when people can expect high speed fibre broadband in their area.
