Creech St Michael Parish Council Report November 2011 2011-11-21 17:08:40

Article submitted by Jill Loader, Parish Clerk Creech St Michael Parish Council

The Parish Council took a moment to think about the incident on the M5 on 4th November.

The new (returning) member, Cllr Ken Hunt was welcomed and introduced.  Cllr Fred Bates announced his resignation.

An update on the Monkton Heathfield Development Plans were outlined by County Representatives, and they encouraged engagement of the community to help resolve and improve areas of concern.  Future meetings were necessary over the following months.

Four planning applications were discussed with one application being opposed, together with an update on those applications which had been approved at District level.

The Recreation Field official standing and problems were still causing issues, resulting in the working party being disbanded for now and further discussions required to resolve the future of the field.

The parish magazine would streamline the advert sizes and increase the charges for advertising for 2012.

Usual finances were approved and Highway issues raised would be reported.

The next Parish Council meeting is on Monday, 5th December at 7pm.

Dog fouling in the parish of Creech St Michael 2011-11-09 13:11:36

Announcement from Creech St Michael Parish Council

At the parish council meeting on Monday 7th November, during the public speaking time strong complaints were expressed about the continued signs of dog fouling in public areas; the canal, pavements, close to the school and the playing field.

The council explained their position and again asked that all such incidents be reported to the Taunton Deane at this link

The risks from such fouling are well documented and all dogs should be controlled.

Anyone seeing such anti-social action should politely remind owners that it is an offence.

Halloween fun on the Taunton and Bridgwater Canal 2011-11-01 10:37:02

Article submitted by Kelly Durdan, Somerset Waterways Development Trust

The Somerset Waterways Development Trust really got into the “spirit” of Halloween.

The crew dressed in costume and decorated the trip boat in a spooky theme. Children and their families were invited along, to take a trip across the “River Styx” (better known as the Taunton and Bridgwater Canal), to the land of the un-dead, where they were greeted by an assortment of scary witches, ghosts,Dracula and the grim reaper.

[caption id="attachment_761" align="aligncenter" width="298" caption="Halloween fun on the Taunton and Bridgwater canal"][/caption]

There was face painting fun inside the creepy cave, and Children were treated with a Halloween gift bag, whilst the adults were offered refreshments of “scream teas” or coffee and creepy cakes.

The party then moved back to the river to enjoy a short cruise along the Canal accompanied by funky Halloween tunes.

A really “wicked” time was had by all!

The Trust are running trips to see Santa in his grotto in December, departing from Creech St Michael cruising to the “North Pole”.

Every good boy and girl will get a present and fares are £4.50 children and £3.50 for adults.
