It was with deep sadness and regret that we receive the announcement of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of councillors and employees serving Creech St Michael Parish Council, as well as the residents throughout our community, we send our sincere condolences to The Royal Family.

Throughout her time as the longest-serving British monarch, Her Majesty provided exemplary steadfast and loyal service to the Country and to communities across the wider World. There are very many people throughout the Parish who have held Her Majesty in great regard and will wish to pay tribute to her in the coming days. The Parish Council, working with other community organisations will ensure that everyone who wishes to, is able to express their gratitude for the life of Her Majesty.

Her Majesty’s devotion to duty will never again be matched and she will remain always in our hearts. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time. Their sadness at the loss of such a pillar of their family is shared by us all.

At their meeting held on the 5th of September, the Parish Council approved a proposal to sign up to the national Civility and Respect pledge promoted by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC), One Voice Wales, the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) and county associations.

By signing the Pledge, your council is agreeing that the council will treat councillors, clerks, employees, members of the public, and representatives of partner organisations and volunteers with civility and respect in their roles and that it:

• Has put in place a training programme for councillors and staff
• Has signed up to the Code of Conduct for councillors
• Has good governance arrangements in place including staff contracts and a dignity at work policy
• Will seek professional help at the early stages should civility and respect issues arise
• Will commit to calling out bullying and harassment if and when it happens
• Will continue to learn from best practices in the sector and aspire to be a role model/champion council through for example the local Local Council Award Scheme
• Supports the continued lobbying for change in legislation to support the Civility and Respect Pledge including sanctions for elected members where appropriate
